I saw on the news today that E Lynn Harris died.
I didn't know the man of course, but i feel true sadness at learning about his passing. I have been a fan of his writing for years, finding him first because he wrote African American Fiction and then becoming a fan when i finished that first title .
Plus he was a southern gay man who wrote about the real life stresses and confusion African American gay men go through, and i found that fascinating.
His books were about friendship and love, lust and sexual desire, but the feeling i always took away from his books were ones of family, and how "family" isn't necessarily the people who raised you but the people who share the joy and sorrow of your life.
I think that's a powerful message regardless of your race or sexual identity.
He will be missed by this fat, straight, white girl from WV.
